Prototype Manufacturing for Mechanical Products and Components
In a mechanical development process, producing prototypes before moving into full-scale manufacturing is often highly beneficial. It allows design flaws to be identified and corrected, and the design to be further optimised before production tooling is commissioned and the associated investment is committed.
At LM Projects, we provide prototype manufacturing that not only helps prove a concept but can also be used to prepare and optimise the design for subsequent production.
Whether you need a single unit for an investor presentation or multiple units for field testing or certification, we can help manufacture prototypes where functionality, tolerances and surface finishes are adapted to your specific requirements.
Mechanical prototyping
A 3D CAD model can hide design issues. Physical components are often necessary to verify ergonomics, tolerances and aesthetics.
CNC Machining
CNC machining is a subtractive manufacturing method suitable for metal components or functional plastic prototypes that need to withstand mechanical testing and loads.
- Best suited for: Structural brackets, heat sinks and moving mechanisms.
- Materials: Including aluminium, stainless steel, brass, Delrin and nylon.
Simple Tooling Solutions
When you require a small series of prototypes, we can provide a range of simple tooling solutions. As the ideal manufacturing method varies from one component to another, we adapt the process to your project rather than locking you into a single production method.
- Flexibility: The method is selected based on the design, material requirements and function of the specific component.
- Efficiency: A practical and cost-effective way to manufacture prototypes when standard machining is not the most suitable solution.
- Adapted process: We evaluate your project to determine an appropriate tooling strategy instead of relying on a standardised approach.
Finishing with Painting and Printing
A functional prototype can validate the engineering work, but a finished prototype can make it easier to communicate the final vision. We provide surface finishing, including painting and printing on components, allowing prototypes to more closely resemble the intended finished product.
This level of detail can be particularly valuable when prototypes are used in commercial settings or presented to external stakeholders, for example:
- Demonstrations Present a well-developed product concept to investors and key stakeholders.
- Trade shows: Display realistic and visually refined models at your exhibition stand.
- Field testing: Allow the product to look and feel more realistic in order to collect more useful user feedback or development data.
Ready to scale?
From proof of concept (PoC) to series production, LM Projects can help assess the next steps. Send us your CAD files, technical drawings, material requirements or an existing prototype for a confidential review of your specific requirements and objectives.
